Facing the Facts of Rosacea

It is easy to assume that all celebrities look beautiful all the time because that is what they do. Well known actress Cynthia Nixon from Sex in the City always looked beautiful on and off the

screen. I never knew that she had Rosacea.

Here is an informational youtube video that Cynthia Nixon made about how she discovered she had Rosacea.

I feel that true beauty comes from within and how a person acts. However, it is human nature to notice outer beauty first. I may not have had Rosacea, but I know all about acne and facial hair. I can’t even tell you how much money I had spent trying to cover things up and wax unwanted hairs away. These were only temporary solutions. The acne flared up again, the hair grew back, and the cover-up eventually ran out. Is there just one solution for me? I am still trying to figure that out. I feel that sticking with a routine and getting the facts about an issue can bring success.

The people behind the National Rosacea Society are reaching out to help those suffering from it.

Are Pediatric Emergency Rooms Ready For Your Emergency?

If you are a parent, grandparent, mom, step-mom, or sibling, you know what a Pediatric Emergency room is. You may have even been in one recently. I am going to share a true story about what happened when these parents took their prematurely born daughter to the pediatrician and hospital emergency room. The following story was written by the parents.

Our daughter Rebecca was born four weeks early on July 13, 2006. We loved her from the moment of birth and savored every hour with her. She was released from the NICU five days later, supposedly as a healthy baby girl. The next day, Rebecca was severely congested with thick mucus, continuing her slow feedings, and had difficulty breathing. We took her to the pediatrician and the hospital emergency room during each of the following days we had her. Doctors diagnosed her symptoms as a common cold, and she was repeatedly sent home. Unfortunately, Rebecca passed away on the morning of July 21. We later found out that she had contracted an enteroviral infection that can be lifethreatening in babies. Had her symptoms been treated, she may still be here today. As a result of this tragedy with Rebecca, we created the R Baby Foundation. This charity is dedicated to helping newborn babies, primarily those less than a month old suffering from viral infections and other infectious diseases, receive the highest quality of care and service through supporting education, research, training and life-saving equipment.

This story was taken from The R Baby Foundation website. The parents that wrote this story are Phyllis & Andrew Rabinowitz. You can read more about their story here. Their goal is to save as my babies’ lives as possible.

In order to reach as many people as possible, the R Baby Foundation enlisted a very influential list of parent bloggers. I was beyond thrilled and honored to be invited to participate in this initiative. I am happy to support this organization and will attend the 5 Star Gala honoring the amazing Julia Beck in NYC next week.

With a passion and gift of exceptional reach, we all participated in an #rbabyfoundation twitter party. In one hour, we reached almost 10 million impressions and was a topic trending in NYC! The reach was tremendous and the conversations inspirational, emotional, and most importantly, hopeful.

You can help R Baby Foundation accomplish their goal of improving Pediatric Emergency centers around the world. I have included some links below.

Feeling Not So Groovy

This week started off with a hurl, literally. Yes, I was awake most of Sunday night and Monday morning. Not because I had jet lag from a dream vacation, nor from watching the very first season of Mad Men. My 5 year old had a stomach bug and released her entire macaroni and cheese dinner everywhere but in the designated “barf bucket”. I felt so bad for her, and than I started to feel bad. Yes, I also shared the very same stomach bug with her.

Thankfully, we had pedialyte in the house. Even with that, I was having the hardest time getting my other two kids up, fed, dressed and off to school. I kept thinking about how bad I felt, but also how people can feel that sick all of the time. Not just parents, but children. I wanted to badly somebody to take care of us me. I just wanted to close my eyes and sleep for a few hours that morning. As we all, parents do not get a day off!

What I had was a stomach bug, something that I could get over eventually. My daughter had already started to get back to her normal spunky self by 10:00am. I was so relieved, however, I couldn’t help but think about children with illnesses that don’t feel well so quickly.

There is something about being sick that really puts you in the moment. It is bad when it happens to an adult, even worse when it happens to a child. Shouldn’t a child be laughing and having fun? This past evening, 180 campers and counselors from the Chai Lifeline family smiled and danced all weekend in Queens, NY. The counselors, families, and volunteers from this incredible organization brought smiles to the Queens community as well. I had the opportunity to see this in action. Saturday evening, a tent that felt like a room was filled with food, party hats, and happiness. Two very special musical personalities in the Jewish world joined the fun as well. Lipa Shmeltzer and Yaakov Shwekey sang while the follow was full of jumping and clapping. All of this by children that have been sick and well, and sick again. Some children were in wheelchairs, others had breathing machines with them at all times. No matter what illness they may be suffering from, they laughed and smiled the entire evening.

Even when I might not be feeling well one day, I start to feel much better knowing that Chai Lifeline is out there helping families and their children going through the challenges that these situations can create for the entire family. Thank you Chai Lifeline and thank you incredible volunteers!

Sandra Lee Hosts World’s Largest Bake Sale To Support Food Bank Of NYC

Even though Passover is on my mind and baking cakes is on hold, I am taking a trip to Grand Central Station in New York on March 29th for the World’s Largest Bake Sale. This is a must attend for foodies and the benefits are good for the body and soul!

At the same time a satellite bake sale will be taking place in every state, each in turn raising money for a local ood pantry, literally ensuring that the event will e indeed be The World’s Largest Bake Sale. Even Guinness book of World Records will be in on the act, auditing the entire event.

The World’s Largest Bake Sale, sponsored by Pyrex, will feature sweet and savory baked goods from 30 of new York’s most well-known eateries.
