Elmo’s Birthday Party and Elmo’s World: Favorite Things DVD Giveaway

A couple of weeks ago I went to a birthday party with my kids. The guest of honor, a three and half year old red monster named Elmo. I think I was more nervous and excited than my kids.

The party location was at the Sesame Street corporate offices in Manhattan. When we arrived to the party room, it was full of moms, kids, press, and all out fun. There were two very talented balloon artists (I think that is what you call them) creating balloon versions of Elmo and Abby. In an adjacent room, a couple of long tables were full with young children coloring and creating projects with stickers. The food included Apple & Eve, Sesame Street themed juice boxes, Earth’s Best cookies, birthday cake, and more. We were only able to eat the items that had the kosher symbol on them, which included the Apple & Eve and Earth’s Best products. My 5 year old daughter kept asking everybody if the food was kosher, what a little mamala she has become! I kept looking around because I knew that the guest of honor would be making his appearance at any moment. My 3 year old son was with me on that one.

An announcement was made and we were treated to sneak peak of Elmo’s World: Birthdays,” from Elmo’s World: Favorite Things DVD. My kids loved the video, and we even have a copy to give away (see instructions below).

Following the presentation, Leela from Sesame Street introduced Elmo. He is even cuter in person. They sang a couple of songs together, which the kids just loved (and so did I!). Then, the lights were dimmed and a woman came walking into the room with a very nice cake and 3 and a half candles for the Muppet of honor. You can see it in the video below. Elmo made a wish, and the crowd was invited to meet him. Imagine an entire room full of kids gitty with excitement. I was thrilled to have my kids in a picture with so many Sesame Street Celebrities! Leela, Elmo, and Elmo’s creator Kevin Clash. Pinch me now!

Once again, my daughter, at this very moment, inquired if the cake was kosher. Yes, in fact, the cake was from Costco which has a kosher bakery. Sweet, but that’s not all.

We were provided with a goody bag of Sesame Street goodies complete with the new DVD! A Day In The Life Of Elmo’s World

Originally uploaded by Primetime Parent

I had the best time on Sesame Street yesterday along with mommy, daddy, and auntie bloggers from around the blogosphere.

I have always loved Sesame Street and now I can share my most favorite classic clips with my kids. In fact, my son is watching Ray Charles sing the alphabet with a bunch of very lucky kids while I write my this blog post. I can add this to “my street”, which is a selection of our favorite videos and games (and this keeps the kids occupied for more than 2 minutes at a time). This especially helpful I don’t want little hands in the dirty mop water or my make-up.

Did you know that Sesame Street is going to be 40 on November 10th? I was there watching Big Bird and Cookie Monster in the beginning and now I am re-living the stream and the newest technologies with my family. When I was a kid, I would sit and wait for Sesame Street to come on (I would ask my mom “is it on yet” a gazillion times) I was that addicted.

Here are just a couple of the great online resources and monsters you can meet at sesamestreet.org:

An insider look at some of the biggest stars visiting Sesame Street for the 40th season

A new blog from “Sesame Family Robinson” where Marty Robinson and Annie Evans share their experiences raising twin daughters (they are so adorable) while continuing their work producing Sesame Street.

An update on the events leading up to the big 40th birthday celebration on November 10th. I’ll see you there!
