Some Of The Best Things In Life Are Green

My 2 Year Old Enjoyed A Dunkin' Donuts Ice Coffee With Me Today

I’ve always loved this time of year. The trees are coming back to life, the birds are singing, and I can go walking with the kids once again. I usually treat myself with a coffee and ice coffee in fact. Today wasn’t a walking day, so right after I dropped my 4 yr. old off at school, we made a mad dash to the nearest Dunkin’ Donuts drive-thru (with a 1 yr. old and 2 yr. old in the car, this is the only way) and I purchased two Iced Coffees for .50 cents. Okay, it’s not free, but at least it is a small price to pay for a great ice coffee. Even better, proceeds go to HomesForOurTroops.Org, an organization that helps build homes for our troops.

Speaking of free, there are some other free and tasty items happening today and tomorrow. You scream, I scream, let’s go get some free ice scream. That’s right, Ben & Jerry’s  today, April 21st is Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry’s. They are giving back to us customers as a way to say thank for years loyal licks of their chunky, crunchy, and colorful ice cream, frozen yogurt and sorbet. Just click HERE and enter your city and a list of participating stores will appear. My cravings have always led me to Chunky Monkey, delicious! What’s your favorite? Scoop Shops will be dishing it out from noon to 8:00 pm. Don’t forget to check with your local Scoop Shop for more info!

On the topic of free ice cream, here is something in honor of Earth Day in New York that will make you smile. Sylvania will be crusing around in a branded Mister Softee truck around Manhattan and giving out FREE soft serve ice cream and distributing product coupons for Sylvania CFLs. Not only will you save on your sweet tooth tomorrow, you will be enlightened as well! That’s right, switching to a CFL is still one of the easiest ways to both go green and save some green!

In particular, Sylvania is using Earth Day to tout its Living Spaces CFL collection which features an industry-exclusive, enhanced phosphor blend that delivers a warm, cozy light for the home. As a Stay-At-Home-Mom with 3 kids, 4 and under, there have been weeks (due to colds and coughs) when we haven’t been able to get out of the house. This has been a life saver for those long, winter weeks stuck at home. I am so in love with Living Spaces CFLs, because they are designed for the rooms we actually live in! And live we do, with a 1 yr. old, 2 yr. old, and 4 yr. old, all the toys always end up in one place.

Not only do they last 13 years and save up to $56 over the life of the bulb. That means if you switch just one incandescent bulb you’ll save $56, switch five and that’s almost $300 in savings!

When I married my husband, I married a very environmentally and economically conscious (he’s also quite the chef) man. He is always looking out for us in so many ways, and being good to the environment (going green) and being frugal (saving some green) go hand and hand. If Jim Henson had created Kermit in these times, he would now say, “it is so easy to be green”.

So, enjoy each day as if it were Earth Day (breath in the air, look at the sky, listen to the birds) because it is all here for you, and it’s free!
